Are you one of the many brides who loves the idea of a barn wedding? Are you on the hunt for unique barn wedding decor ideas? Here are a few that are certain to make your barn wedding a stand out event!
The barn wedding trend looks like it’s got staying power and will definitely be hotter than ever in 2012. In fact, barn wedding venues are cropping up all over the US and Canada, which is great news for couples pining for a shabby chic or rustic wedding.
There are many different styles of barn weddings, from all-out elegance to simple, vintage-styled, or country chic. Elegance with rustic elements are a popular wedding trend. Here are some DIY barn wedding decor ideas that will go a long way in creating an inviting space:

1. Light Strands – Use lots of them!  Market place lighting, as they are often called, are small bulbs of light, similar in size to a golf ball, and will help to create instant ambiance and make the barn radiant and enchanting. Barns generally don’t have the greatest lighting – but strands of lights hung about your dining area will make a huge impact. Buy them right after Christmas at a good price, but do not be tempted to buy the icicle lights... leave them for Christmas decor, not wedding decor!
2. Candles – Us them everywhere possible. They are affordable, and again, lighting is the single most important decor element when creating mood, ambiance and a wedding to remember. Check with your venue, to make sure all flame is safely inside a hurricane or container! Again, this will help to light up your space and add a romantic glow. Just be mindful that your barn wedding venue is made of wood! Use open flames with caution.

3. Burlap – Burlap table runners look great at a barn wedding – and burlap is an excellent choice for brides on a budget. Burlap can be used in a multitude of ways including, wedding invitations, bouquet wraps, buntings, chuppah drapes, altar coverings and more.

4. Buntings – Buntings are a great way to add colors and patterns to an earthy backdrop. Buntings or pennant garlands are a terrific DIY project that allows your personality and wedding day style shine! Pom pom garlands are also a great way to bring color to your event.

5. Chalkboards – Chalkboards are a great fit for barn weddings as menu boards or even seating charts. You can make your own chalkboard signs with using Masonite from your local hardware store.
6. Glass – Bottles in various colors and shapes make for superb barn wedding centerpieces. Large and small sizes and a combination of colors and shapes including old medicine bottles, perfume and chemistry bottles, are wonderful when filled with small flowers. You might try to suspend them with string from the ceiling.

7. Tins -Vintage tin cans, and old galvanized watering cans add a rustic vibe to your table decor.

8. Ribbon- Ribbon will add pops of color to the earthy, rustic tones inside a barn. The soft, flowing quality of ribbon fits in nicely in a barn setting.

9. Drapery – Drapery can be hung from the ceiling or at the entrance way.

10. Chandelier - A chandelier adds instant elegance to a space and is one of the most transformative barn wedding elements. The contrast of such beautiful elegance in a rustic setting works each and every time!
11. Books- Raid your home library and supplement with vintage books from your local thrift store. When combined with tins, flowers, bottles, chalkboards, and other decor elements, you can create small "vinettes" for each table, creating a unique table centerpiece that is unforgettable.
