It's been a very busy couple of weeks for us here at RPP. We had a great trip to Chicago last week, and almost immediately turned around and headed to NYC for a wedding and a consequential full-on family reunion in Brooklyn, where I confirmed I still have the most fun and lovable cousins in the world. We made it home in time to watch the Raven's lose an embarrassing game to the eagles, and then we slept like rocks last night. This week, we're into full on prep mode for the upcoming holiday season. Speaking of which:

Applications are officially open for Holiday Heap - a super cool craft fair in Baltimore that we help organize through the Charm City Craft Mafia each year. 60+ craft vendors from all over the country, food, music and good times. I'm really excited about it - and also about the other great pieces in the opening --- definitely worth seeing. Info below:-----Join us for the opening of HOUSE SHOW! Co-curated by Marianne Amoss, Marian April Glebes, Sarah McCann, and Jessica Young of D center Baltimore, the exhibit studies and celebrates the idea of the rowhouse as storyteller. It examines how these familiar structures serve as narratives, recording and telling our personal stories and the stories of streets, neighborhoods, and entire cities. What are the stories contained within rowhouse walls? How do rowhouses reveal how we live now, and how we used to live?

In keeping with the interdisciplinary mission of both Case[werks] and D Center Baltimore, HOUSE SHOW features work in a variety of mediums and by a range of artists, representing architecture, photography, sculpture, oral history, and more.

The exhibit is at Urbanite @ Case[werks] from September 21 through October 24, 2012.

Puuuuurdy darn excited to be part of Make Magazine's World Maker-Faire (a sort of... science fair for adults, if you will)in Queens, NY this weekend! Bust Craftacular holds a craft fair on the Faire-grounds each year, and this year we'll be hocking all your Red Prairie Press favorites, WHILE simultaneously spying on all the supercool inventions and geek-stuffs on exhibit. We had a fantastic time this weekend in NY at the World Maker Faire! Honestly, I'm so completely blown away by the things I didn't know existed in the world, that I'm not sure where to begin. Butterfly bicycles, Cupcakes & Hammocks as motorized passenger vehicles, 3D printers for the consumer, unicorns that shoot fire from their horn and pee your beverage of choice, pancake robots, "artbots"... a camping trailer made entirely of refurbished materials by people who don't own any tools (they borrowed them from a local tool library), lessons on soldering, lock picking, sewing, composting... and Robots, Robots, Robots.We got to see a performance of coke+mentos explosions and a life sized version of the game of "Mouse Trap". We met some ridiculous people, and some very very smart people...and despite screen-printing being possibly the least impressive undertaking displayed at a fair like this - we had some of the most enthusiastic and appreciative shoppers ever. What a treat!We had SO much fun that it made accidentally getting our car towed on Monday morning from a spot in Brooklyn just a little less painful. The visits with our NY friends, the new and exciting people, and the frequent flier points I earned purchasing my toyota back from the NYPD for $300 (yes, really! $185 for towing, plus a $115 bonus parking ticket for the same offense.) might just get us to one of the other Maker Faires. They happen all over the country, and I bet there's cheaper parking if you look for it...

When my in-laws came into town last month for a visit, we (me, the husband, my brother-in-law William and my sister-in-law Lindsey) escaped for a day downtown to take Lindsey's senior pictures. We first hit up Zilker Gardens and then made our way over near South Congress to sneak walk around the alleyways and whatnot to find some cool spots. Lindsey is, for lack of a better word, crazy. But the awesome kind. She's hardcore into basketball (she plays on her HS varsity team) but can't leave the house unless her hair looks perfect (you know it's true, Linz). Not to mention she's a ridiculous ball of energy. We love her to death and her silliness made the photoshoot all that more fun. She was a trooper, too - we walked around for about 4 hours in the middle of the day and in this summer weather, that means 100+ degree temps. Now that they have the final images on disc, I thought I'd post a few of my favorites. Including some outtakes at the end... :)

Um, yeah. Apparently playing basketball gives you killer legs. Sign me up! Also, if you're a boy, look away.

Gettin' Present (& Correct) With It

Today on my daily stroll through Pinterest, I discovered an eclectic website that has been around for a few years but until now has escaped my radar. Present & Correct is an online business based in the UK that houses "a place for our own designs, things we love by other designers from around the world & vintage items which we discover around Europe, and sometimes further afield." Their inventory seems to lean heavily toward the office supply environment, but in a very unique & diverse way. Original posters from the 60s mix with new calendar designs, all in a site categorized by words like "mail," "organise" and "ephemera."

I love these Christmas stamps that could be used for all sorts of crafty feats - they're made new, but the 10 different designs have a distinct retro feel about them. And then of course the Roll Calendar from the 70s, with German text and a choice of green or white.

These old tickets are begging to be used creatively and I'm loving the numbered pins, which do indeed cater to my OCD side, as the description describes.


Vintage post cards featuring iconic London vehicles would be fun to send someone and can you imagine having 220 meters (over 700 feet!) of pure cotton airmail string to use at your disposal? I could see myself wrapping all of my gifts this year in nothing more than brown craft paper and this twine-esque embellishment.
